Jesus Wants Me for A........
SUNBEAM!!! Sam and I were called this past Sunday to be Sunbeam teachers. We're excited to be serving in the Primary. (Just as a sidenote, when we moved here in May, our ward was huge with about 950 members. About one month ago, our ward was split and a brand new ward was formed. We are in the brand new ward. The bishopric has been super busy organizing the new ward). Anyway, there are two Sunbeam classes. We're team teachers. Sam taught the first lesson and I'm teaching the lesson this Sunday. We had 5 kids in our class. (Tyler is an honorary member of our class). I have a feeling that our class will only get bigger as time goes on. So far, so good. I'm not going to bring treats to church to bribe the kids. Does anyone out there have any suggestions to keep the kids' attention during class?! Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

That is exciting!! Where are you guys living? That ward sound alot like my moms ward. They have 3 or 4nurserys and they have to hold primary opening excercises in the chapel. I am so glad that you have a blog! I love being able to keep in touch with friends from Jacob Lake!!

I was a Sunbeams teacher in my last ward as well. Treats were all right sometimes, but we lived in a very health-conscious area and the parents didn't like their kids having certain things, so we tried to keep the treats to birthdays only. We also did muffins instead of cake on those occasions. One of the things that was really helpful for us was taking breaks during the lesson to do something a little more active. We loved doing the fingerplays that they have in the manual. The church website also has flannel board kits online available, which kids that age love. Good luck!
All I have to say is that I don't envy you!? Sunbeams is HARD. I am sure you will do great, but of all the varied callings I've had, I think its one of the hardest. It is just a hard adjustment cause they go from playtime, to having to have a structured class and all- it's just hard! I'll say a little prayer for you. One thing is, you'll never lack on stories! They ARE entertaining! You will do great!
I found that songs, stories, and coloring were great. Oh, and use pictures for the stories and the one who is being reverent gets to hold them. Congrats! Have so much fun, you'll be awesome!
I've been in sunbeams, loved the calling. I also found that making the file folder games helps alot. And you make one that teach scripture stories and everything. I think you can buy the CD roms that have everything. Go to finchfamilygames.com Best of luck!!
