Beyond the Fence

Tyler is a very curious 3 year old.  I have a strong feeling that when he's a teenager, we'll really butt heads.  Tyler has the same kind of personality as I do. At times, I don't know how to handle him.

Take July 22nd for example.  I checked on my boys and they were both being quiet and watching TV.  Katie was still sleeping so I decided to read my scriptures up in my bedroom.  Not more than 10 minutes later, Brian comes upstairs saying, "Where's Tyler?  I can't find him."  Oh man!  We searched all over the house including closets, under beds, etc, but to no avail.  All panicked, I called Sam and he rushed home to help us find him.  I called up a couple of neighbors for help too.  Even some of my friends out on their walks joined in the "fun."  Kids furiously pedaled their bikes while their eyes scanned the neighborhood for Tyler in his bright yellow shirt.  My mommy friends knocked on doors asking others if they knew where Tyler was.  I had Katie on my hip and couldn't stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks.  Then, just as I thought I couldn't handle the suspense anymore, I hear, "We found him!  He was on Liz's front porch."

About a minute later, Sam's car rounded the corner to our street, Tyler was running down the sidewalk to greet me, and my friends all rejoiced with me.  Although it was so good to see that little face of Tyler's just smirking at me, he still got a nice long time out, an explanation from me why it is not good to run away, and Tyler could not go outside for the rest of the day.  I thought that those punishments were fit for the crime.  But I guess Tyler forgot the part about why it is bad to run away because Tyler ran way again the following Friday!  That time, Tyler was found in the neighbor's van that was parked in their garage, watching a movie with Caleb and Noah.

I told you Tyler was curious!  He goes through whatever means possible to discover what is BEYOND THE FENCE!

Oh Lisa that's awful, I would have been crying too! My Luke is like your Tyler I think, he has run away more times than I can count. Thankfully I think we have finally outgrown that phase, but now he is on to bigger and better adventures that still drive me crazy!

Gorgeous picture by the way, he looks so cute and little standing next to that big fence, love it!

Uh yeah that is scary. I hate when they do things like that. I am glad you had wonderful neighbors to help you.

How scary!! That has got to be THE worst feeling ever...and I hope I never have to experience it. Time to board up your house!:)

Yikes that so scary! That is lucky you have such great neighbors. I worry about Clara doing the same thing. If she gets out the front door she is off to explore whether anyone is with her or not. We got a chain on our front door to hopeful not have to go through what you did. So sorry! That really has to be the worst feeling in the world

I am sorry that this had to happen. I can't even imagine how scared you were. glad the outcome was a good one. I don't blame him though, beyond the fence probably is much more interesting. ;)
