Grocery Grumblings

I don't like grocery shopping.  Does anyone out there actually enjoy it?  I sure wish I enjoyed it since I go grocery shopping once a week.  Plus, I go shopping at night without any kids with me, so it should be a nice "break."

A couple years ago, I remember waiting in the check out line.  The line was long and I knew I'd be awhile until it was my turn.  The middle aged lady in front of me turned around.  She blurted out, "I hate grocery shopping."  I nodded my head in agreement and said, "Me too."  Then we just started chatting.  In my mind, I started really analyzing the grocery shopping process and verbalized my thoughts.  "Let's see, how many times do we have to touch our groceries before we get it home and get it put away?!
1.  You take the grocery items off the shelf and place them in your cart.
2.  Put the groceries on the conveyor belt at the check out.
3.  Place the bagged groceries back in the cart and wheel them out to your car.
4.  Lift the bagged groceries out of the cart and neatly arrange them in the back of your car.
5.  Drive home and drag those groceries into your house.
6.  Place each grocery item in their designated spot."

The middle aged lady just laughed at me and said.  "That sounds about right.  Hey, but just be grateful that you don't have to grow the food, package the food, drive the food to the grocery store, and stock the shelves too."  'Nuff said.

Yes, that lady's comments made me realize that gathering food for my family at the store down the shouldn't be viewed as annoying as I had described.

I guess I should consider myself lucky.

Naaaaah.  I'd still rather hire a personal shopper, order my groceries online, and have it all delivered to me.  I think I could handle touching my grocery items once to put them away at my house.

Most people I know hate grocery shopping. I like it, if I am by myself. Going with the kids is unpleasant. I love to go up and down the aisles, musing about all the delicious food I can make.

I am so with you. Kaleb is finally a pleasure to go shopping with, but I still postpone it as long as I can. It used to be torture with him screaming, running away & knocking stuff off the shelves...grrr! I think it's funny how the bagger always asks if I'd like help out...can I just take them home & have them help me carry the groceries from the street into the house? Getting them from the cart to my trunk is the easy part!

Well I don't like grocery shopping either especially because I do take my boys with me and every week I swear to myself this is the last week they get to come along and then the next week I end up bringing them again. But I have to say if I was by myself I don't think I would mind it so much, it would be like a vacation!

I enjoy the times that I get to go grocery shopping by myself. I usually go on Saturday, which can be busy, but if I go early enough I miss most of the crowds. Also, the grocery store I go to actually takes the groceries right out of the cart, the bagger bags them and puts them back in the back so I touch my groceries a lot less than you do :-). Good Luck with future ventures.

Agreed. I so wish I could do the online ordering thing. I have come SO close to looking into it and considering it...even brought up Albertson's website. Except I live two minutes away and I just couldn't justify it! It's truly a chore though.

It's not the grocery shopping I hate, it is the menu planning. I hate coming up with what to eat and all the side dishes that match.
