Mother and Son Date Night
Sam took Tyler to his first ever football game last Saturday and it got me thinking about the last time I went and did something fun with just Brian. After dinner on Saturday night, Brian and I threw on our jackets, hopped in the car, and drove up to "the mountain." The plan was to watch the sunset from the mountains. (Brian has been obsessed with the sun lately.) By the time we got to the mountain, the sun had already set. We decided to go on a little walk down by the river before it got too dark. Brian was cold and ended up holding my hand and jogging with me on the trail. We made it to the bridge, turned around, and went back to the car. I captured a quick picture of him grinning ear to ear on a big rock:
Then, we drove to a toy store that our neighbors told us about... Magical Moon Toys. We arrived at 7:30PM and the store was closed. Bummer! So we stopped by Shop-Ko to look at all the toys. When we got home, we ate small cups of mint chocolate chip ice cream on the bench on our front porch under the starlit sky. We had fun and I want to make these kid dates happen once a month. Sam and I can just rotate the boys. It's good for the boys to have a fun time with just one parent.

Funny you should post about this... I have a date with one of my sons on the calendar for this Saturday! Patrick and I decided to do monthly dates with our boys (and switch each month).
I'm glad you two had so much fun. Those are moments I'm sure he'll remember throughout his life.
That is a great idea. I should start doing that with my girls...Chase would have no idea that we would be doing anything. :) I'm glad that you were able to find something to do. My kids LOVE looking at toys in the store.
You're such a good mommy!!! That really is a great idea.
That's a fun idea, even if your date didn't work out exactly how you planned.
